.How we raise money
We are a registered charity and can therefore benefit from things like Gift Aid and charity matching schemes. As such, we have to abide by the Charity Commission rules which means having a committee, a constitution and an AGM. If you’d like any more information on this, please email us at Friendsofbuttsschool@gmail.com
Here are some examples of the events and activities we run. Obviously, fundraising is our main aim but we want both kids and parents to have fun too!
Coffee Cafés – these are run around once per term after school in the hall or outside if the weather is nice. We ask for cake donations (both homemade and shop-bought!) and sell them along with teas, coffees and squash for a donation. The dining tables are laid out for everyone to sit round and we provide colouring sheets and pencils to keep the kids entertained. It’s a great opportunity to stop and have a chat and a cuppa with other parents and teachers. And at Christmas, Santa even pays us a visit!
Christmas Fair – with stalls, games, tombolas, music from the school’s singing club and a hamper raffle, this really is an event not to be missed.
Christmas Cards – what could be lovelier than sending out Christmas cards designed by your little ones?! The company we use gives us a percentage for all orders placed and the kids love getting creative – win win!
Clothes Recycling – we use a company to collect bags of old clothes for recycling and get a certain amount for each kilo donated – good for the environment and good for our funds! This takes place roughly 3 times a year and is advertised well in advance.
Discos – we run 2 discos a year for the children which they really look forward to.
Sponsored Events – we hold these every other year and they range from walks to obstacle courses but anything goes!
Parent Social Events – run twice a year with the primary aim of getting parents together to unwind and have fun, we run things like quizzes and race nights but would love other suggestions!
Summer Madness – this is our big one, a summer evening filled with fun and laughter. We have stalls, games, tombolas, live music, bouncy castle, ice cream, a BBQ and the most popular stall of all….the bar!
How we spend the money
Every single penny we raise goes to something that benefits all the children. We work with the school who provide us with a ‘wish list’ and our aim is to buy as many items from that list as we possibly can. In the past we have purchased laptops, iPads, interactive white boards, books, the fantastic pirate ship in the playground, the adventure play area equipment and theatre performances to name but a few.
Other FOBS contributions
We offer the school a supportive role in enhancing the children’s school experience wherever we can. Activities include: -
- Donations to each class to buy treats for their ‘counter pot’ parties.
- Purchasing all Year 6 pupils a Leaver’s Book at the end of the year.
- Running a Christmas lunch complete with festive tunes, jumpers and silly hats – the kids love it!
- Organising the two school discos complete with glow bands and snacks.
- Purchasing ice lollies for the children to enjoy at the end of the summer term.
How you can get involved
We’d love as many parents to join us as possible, whether as a ‘class rep’ or a member of the committee (we have cake and sometimes wine at our meetings!) or just for the odd half an hour here and there to help with some of our events. Any help you can give us really does make all the difference and we are very grateful!
